State House Bound

Kim Gaiser, Rae Kerlin, Erin Merten and I went to the State House to meet with Gregg Dodd, Deputy Director of Communications last week. It was great to see the Rotunda and imagine how wonderful the Memorial will look there. Gregg also gave us a tour of the State House, or as he called it, "the people's house". What a beautiful treasure for our state.
Our Installation will be Memorial Day Weekend of 08. With a private ceremony on Friday night and public one on Saturday.
Wow.

I painted Aaron Reed today

Picture of Chris Dyer.
I painted Aaron Reed today, he's got his elbow on Chris Dyer's shoulder. When I paint, I feel such joy, it is hard to walk away and go back to my other responsibilities. I feel so fortunate to have been chosen to do this work. I pray I can do it justice.
When I paint the men, and I am face to face with each one, I feel a little like I get to know them as I look into their eyes as they emerge.

Detail of Full Size Painting

These are details of the full size painting for the Memorial.

Iron Frame Delivered.

On Monday, April 2, Tarrier Steel arrived at The Artist's Roost to deliver the first of the huge iron frames for the Lima Company Memorial. What a thrill to stand next to the massive, raw steel and know that this will hold the first of the full size panels of the Memorial Paintings. It took 6 men to get it into the studio and ingenuity as it first didn't fit through the door.
Duane Winchester, who worked with me to design the frames, slid the painting down into the frame and I saw the beauty of the raw steel as it picked up the same colors in the painting of Hoffman, Bloem and Bell.
